WHAT DO YOU WANT THE MOST?
When our thoughts escape us like too many puppies in a cardboard box... when life seems to be slipping away from our grasp, and there are changes made without our consent we must know what it is we want the most. That may sound simple, but we must pursue that one thing throughout the destination of our journey.
I have found myself scrambling around like a small wild animal who has never known capture when I look for that one thing...is it freedom I seek? If that is the case then why do I feel the need for enclosure and warmth from the elements of life? Do I seek fulfillment in life of all I can do and be, or all that I can say? When does that become a licence for throwing away all that I have built up in my life in the name of finding myself? We look on life as flying at breakneck speed past us when in reality time is standing almost perfectly still while it is we who do the flying past it. If we look in the mirror to see some younger person staring back at us we may be more dismayed than pleased for we craft our lives over time and care; at least that is what it takes for good quality workmanship. If we are to speed up that process the final product suffers and what we have built does not last.
What we want the many times determines who it is we really are on the inside. That can only be determined at the end of our journey through this life because of the constant changes made as we go. We are not who we were yesterday, nor will we be tomorrow who we have been today because of that constant change and growth. We become a total of the sum of experiences, decisions and beliefs we develop. That includes the trial victories, and failures we have along the way. I have learned that the one constant thing that I must look to and strive toward is God.
That one thing has never lead me wrong...even though I have made many mistakes on my own. God's word, and my seeking after Him has kept me in the pathway toward life until I could see clearly enough to commit to Him all that I am as a man today for the hope of what He has promised me in the future. That one thing has been to exchange my life now for the promise of life eternally. Living my life daily as a living sacrifice to God is not easy by any means...saying it is; but living it out is not. Perhaps we need to focus on what it is that we want the most out of the time we have spent living this life? Perhaps we should go for quality of building what God has made us to be rather than building fast and much. The materials that we so often use to build our lives with are mostly what we find around us that just lay on the ground...the hay and wood, clay and stubble of life that we can easily pick up. We can make some pretty impressive looking building out of that material, and we can even disguise it to look like anything else we want, but only God can find within our lives the real and the lasting things that will stand under the test of fire in our lives. We can be sure the enemy of God will test us and try to knock us down, but we need to know that God will eventually test that material as well to see what the quality is we have built with. Our faith...will it stand under the test of real fire? I don't want to be in the position of just hoping so. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
