Who is God?

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

There is a tremendous number of teaching's today that are being accepted as truth by the church in general because they are not willing to read for themselves or seek after God's spirit to find truth in each thing they are taught. For the most part people do not understand the concept of the Trinity of God because the concept is beyond our ability to control it.

We will either try to separate God from Christ, and from the Holy Spirit or we will proclaim that"there can only be one God"as did the Jews, and that Christ could never have been God in the flesh. I wonder when the time will come when we realize that we are always limiting God's ability to her own limitation. We can never say that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, all present without also admitting that he could very easily be the father the son, and the Holy Spirit at the very same time. We can easily prove that there are three distinct personalities to be dealt with in the Trinity through various scriptures, but like most people who want to simply prove a point was Scripture the Scriptures used is a partial look at the whole picture.

If we look at John 17: 1-3 we can see that Jesus is definitely separated from the father and that he is a physical part of things and he is praying to the father God. He is subject to the father. If one reads further in the passage they soon will see that Jesus is also an eternal part of things as in verse 5 where he refers to the glory he had with the father before the creation of the world. As Jesus prays he continues to pray for those whom God has drawn to him, and for those whom will be drawn to believe over time'That they would believe in us so that the world might believe that Jesus had been sent by God the father." The prayer goes on however to state that Jesus wants for us who have believed to also be one with him as he is one with the father; John 17:22-23. The purpose for this was that we should be in unity together with the father as Christ Jesus was.

John 4:24 is the Scripture used most often to declare that God is spirit, and while that is true they often miss the second part of that very verse that declares we must then worship God in spirit and in truth which indicates that we cannot worship God without his Holy Spirit getting involved in the process. I am sometimes baffled at the idea that somehow the father and the son can be one and yet it is impossible for the Holy Spirit to be a personality of his own as well. In the same passage of Scripture we can find greater reference to the needs for us as disciples to stand firm until the end for salvation, and the ideas that if indeed we are truly his disciples we will face persecution just as he did because the student is never greater than the teacher. From John 10: 19-42 Jesus speaks of this need for us to know that we too will be required to sacrifice much in our life in order to walk with God. In  Acts 2:17-21 we have another confirmation that God's Spirit is working separately from the father God who remains presently on the throne in heaven, and yet is being poured out upon his people; dwelling separately with them and doing a work of spiritual gifts that draws men unto God.

In Acts 5:9 or Ananias and Sapphire tempted the spirit of God only shows more so an individual work, and personality. The spirit of someone cannot be tempted apart from the person normally, and yet we find that the greatest unforgivable sin is a blasphemy against God's Holy Spirit. Luke 11:11-33, while Jesus speaks about asking and receiving various gifts including signs and wonders from God in the form of the Holy Spirit; spoke primarily about those who sought only signs and wonders before they would believe. They were so divided against each other because of signs that Jesus told him they would not receive any more signs, but would be required to believe. It basically dealt with casting out demons, and then being filled with God's spirit so they would not again become enslaved even worse and there were. In 1 Timothy 2:5-6 Paul didn't say there was two gods but one God who is both God and Jesus Christ. It sounds more and more like there are three personalities at work in one being here to me. The question of who is God can only really be answered through faith in Christ Jesus. I pray that you will consider the information I've given to you so that you might understand the Trinity and God is just a little more. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
