Teachings from some Dead Sea Scrolls
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
I have been talking in blogs past about the need for us to be led by God's Spirit in being able to detect lies from truth. Today I'm going to share with you some teachings from a Dead Sea scroll book called Hermas. It is from the command number two section.
Be innocent and without disguise and you will be like an infant who knows no malice which destroys the life of a man. Especially speak no evil of anyone nor be willing to hear anyone speak evil of another four by hearing you will become a partaker of sin of the one who speaks evil. Distraction is inconsistent, and it has an evil spirit that never continues in peace but is always in discord. Therefore stay away from it. These words are almost mirrored in the book of John that we just wrote about in the last blog. This teaching goes on to say to put on a holy consistency where there are no sins but all is full of joy and do good to those who work with you. Give without distinction to all who are in want not doubting those to whom you give.
The book of Hermas in its command three section says love truth, and let all speech be true. The spirit that God has given you well in your flesh may be found true to all men. This is so the Lord may be glorified because he has given such a spirit to us, because God is true and in him there is no lie. Those who live a deny the Lord and become robbers of the Lord. They do not render to God what they have received from him. We have received the spirit free from lying if they make that spirit ally they have defiled that which they have been given from God, and they become deceivers. Once again I want to remind you in reading these words to allow guns spirit to show you truth from lies. I believe that we can find God's truth in several different Scriptures, but we must be careful as we read. If we read through the guidance of the Holy Spirit I believe we can be taught and even deeper conviction in our own heart. I go back now to this Scripture and Hermas three as it says"as any man I can say how do I have any hope of salvation because I have spoken lies all my life and have lived in lies. I have spoken lies as truth before all men but all gave credit to my words and no one contradicted me but all gave me credit to say what I have said. How can I live seeing that I have done these things? You have spoken truly, and I have never listened so closely to these things. Now I do hear them and from now on I will speak only the truth. By departing from lies in speaking truth you will have followed this command from God and shall live. Anger can destroy your standing with God. Repentance from anger is the only way to be safe. Living unto God is the only way to remove anger. Repentance justifies us by the spirit of God. Anger is wicked. It is evil and hurtful and it overthrows the servants of God. It can attack but not hurt those who are full of faith because the power of God is with. Anger overthrows the downfall and those who will not cling to God. As often as it sees such a person it will cast itself into their hearts and so they live in bitterness for nothing; not for the things of life or for substance, or for a vein word. They fall ever deeper into spiritual debt.
Patients and long-suffering if you are patient the Holy Spirit dwells within you shall remain pure and cannot be darkened by any evil spirit. If you remain filled with joy spirit within you shall be enlarged and shall feast in the body in which it dwells, and the spirit shall serve the Lord with joy and great peace. Anger can overtake you and if that happens the Holy Spirit which is in you will be straightened and seek to depart from you. The spirit is choked by evil and he does not have the liberty of serving the Lord as he wants because he is grieved by anger. Anger is unprofitable, so if anger is mixed with patience the soul is distressed and our prayers are no longer profitable with God."
As you look at these teachings it is easy to still see God's Holy Spirit dwelling with each line even though not all of these words can be found in the Scripture that we call the Bible. The truth of these words and many other teachings from God's Holy Spirit can be found in many different places. I want you to be aware of as you read different books, commentaries, and listen to different teachers and preachers. We are in the information age, but we are also in an age of great deceit and lie. We must be extra careful to stay in the center of Christ's teachings. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
