The mentoring project

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

If you were to ask any church in this area they would probably say every effort has been made by the church to increase the numbers of people who have been brought to Christ. While I agree that as many as we can bring to Christ should be brought to I also believe that we should save our first priority to minister to those who have come to Christ, and see that they have an opportunity to grow spiritually to the point that they are no longer babies.

I have seen a great deal done along the line of saving people and then keeping them in an infant state. I have seen very little effort to really increase our Christian productivity or to bear spiritual fruit. The process of mentoring is a very slow process in comparison to the seeker sensitive programs that have been developed by mainstream organizations. It is a system that I believe God wants for us to follow the development of the church family to bring people in, but there are three main areas of mentoring that I can see within the body of Christ that need attention. These are mentoring ministries, and they cover a great range of needs within the community and all are a part of the responsibility of the family of God's spiritual work.

Spiritual mentoring: while this is an obvious area for the church body the way it is brought about as much different than we might think. While we use words to encourage one another at the service it's very unusual for people to follow up with those who need contact with the church family. I don't mean just the minister or the elders of the church, but by the church family itself placing calls and giving encouragement to those who come into the church as new to the community, or the church itself. This is done by team efforts to keep close contact in the development of relationships with those gods. Is bringing to us. The second level of ministry here is to help those people grow in Christ or to get them involved with the process of growth for some one else if they are mature enough in Christ so. In our case there are many who've gone through various programs for addictions that continue to need that kind of support to grow in Christ Jesus. By implementing teams of people who are strong enough to stay with the team we can continue to grow Christians with those backgrounds. Other kinds of program development will work for other kinds of needs, and we should be consistently checking out the needs of those whom God sends our way through follow-up by these church family teams.

There can and should be a team that works just the telephones, and a different team that makes initial calls together on families. There should be a team to do hospital visits or healthcare visits, while still others can do counseling. The thought of one or two people doing all this is what has gotten the church into trouble with growth. It isn't that we see to do good works, but we will be seen by the community around us as we work together for Jesus.

Physical mentoring: many of these people may be new to the area they may need help in getting settled into the community by helping them find services and where they can go for shopping groceries or for the best deals. While many times the services need to be requested to be found, the result of advertising that any kind of mentoring teams exist can be a tremendous asset. The helps ministry can also be used in this way, in the men's ministry can become a real tool used for its. This isn't just physical Ministry of moving things for people but it can be a help for the elderly or infirm people of the church as well. It is a great way to get new men involved with working together and getting to know each other. This becomes a real tool for the older man to mentor younger and doing the work of the Lord in the body of Christ. Once again the community will be watching as would give a good testimony to our life together in Christ

Emotional mentoring: this type of mentoring should be left alone to those among us were spiritually mature and can be able to relate to different problems there are many among us who have emotional troubles for various reasons. It may take a good ear to simply listen while someone unloads their fears troubles, or it may take a special kind of mentoring to help someone see they are not alone. Not everyone is cut out for this and so it becomes a rather specialized ministry in its own right. This needs a tender touch and inside as to who among us if anyone, should be given a task of working with someone like that. I would suggest that anyone who gets into this kind of work within the church body should have a good solid background of the word of God, and a personality type that can handle the stress. Certainly they need a course of study counseling others. If we are to implement this plan prior church we need to be forward to asked people to get involved on a weekly basis. We can just announce it on the Sunday ones and ask if anyone is interested. We must show the church that this is God's will and his desire for all of his children to begin to grow and produce fruit of the spirit in their own lives. These are just some of the thoughts that I have in the development of the bride of Christ, and in the way it should work for ministries. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
