DEVELOPING OUR FUTURE AS THE CHURCH
GREETINGS IN JESUS
I believe that we are perfectly right to feel that we cannot really achieve much on our own when it comes the change of our life and purpose in Christ. For any of us there needs to be to see a number of people who not only agree with what God places within our heart to say, but also they must have a conviction to act on that truth.
I have long had the desire to see things go beyond one person having the strength to write about these things...like the need for Christians to begin to do what is necessary to protect the gospel message, but also create within the community a resource of security for the church body that is as strong as that which we jump into automatically when ever there is a need within the society that surrounds us.
Several years ago at HOPE church there was a movement which i feel was lead by the Holy Spirit called " THE BAND OF BROTHERS" it was built upon the idea in Christ we would leave no man behind...that idea appealed to each of us who joined in that pledge, as almost 100 men stood in front of the church to make that pledge to one another and to our families to find a way to bring a sense of security to the Christian way of life. That movement lasted as long as those who were involved pushed the men around them to discover who they could really be in Christ...but as soon as we looked more closely at self instead of at the message we had been sent to deliver; it all fell apart. I believe that God has a plan for every church, and for every individual who bares the name of Christ.
We have all been given a personal purpose within the body og Christ to fill for the church we are a part of to actually flourish. I don't see church growth in the numbers of people who are brought into a service, but rather in the amount of Spiritual growth seen in the lives of those who are there. That is a much more difficult way to make an impact in a community, but it is also the most lasting kind of witness we can give...and it bears the greatest amount of Spiritual fruit in life for our part in the cause of Christ.
As we continue with these thoughts I want to open this up for greater conversation with each of you. The simple truth is that by ourselves we are too weak and small to begin to bring about change within our church communities that will cause us to take action.
When the people saw those 100 men standing together as a "band of brothers" and making a statement that said we will not leave a brother behind it gave hope to the whole church...the wives felt secure, the families felt proud, and God's Spirit smiled on what was done. In the next few blogs I want to explore some of the possibilities with you that can help us to prepare for some hard times ahead for Christian families. Would you take the time to pray over this subject with me? may you richly bless God through your life in Him.
