REAL PRAYER/REAL POWER
What does it mean to have real prayer...or real power in Christ Jesus? In order to answer that question for any of us it is first important to get to the truth about what we feel real prayer is.
That isn't an easy question to answer always because of the things we have been taught about prayer in terms of what we always need from God. I think all of my life I have heard about the grocery list kinds of prayer where we simply go down a list of what we want and need from God, and we never take the time to have any conversation with Him about life. For many people this becomes more like placing an order at McDonald's than speaking to the master of the Universe. This kind of prayer is heard all to often in those who are suppose to be the closest to the Father, and it is due to the apathy we feel about prayer and its importance in our life.
Acts 4:23-31 speaks to us about prayer that is powerful and present to God. It is designed around understanding who God is to us, and the thankfulness we feel in our heart each moment we realize that we have been save through His grace and love by the sacrifice from Jesus Christ our Lord. We must actively engage God's Spirit in our prayers, and include our relationship with Him when we pray. The first church knew this all too well as it came before God almighty with their prayers given as a gift through the power of His Spirit. That meant that they prepared to go before God in prayer as a church...they sought God's presence among them as they spoke to Him, and He in turn answered them with a loud and definitive voice. We should feel God's presence in each time we come to Him. We should start by acknowledging who He is to us; praise His name, and ask for His will to be done within our lives every time we come to Him.
The church has gotten away from real prayer, and because of that we lack any real power to effect the world around us. We need prayer of a special kind within the church of today...the kind that includes the Father in every way. I know there are people out there who are saying I am getting too deep in all of this; but if I don't then who will? Our lives are dependent upon our relationship with God...I am not talking life as we have always known it, but real life...eternal life that will be ours no matter if we are in Christ or not...it is the manner and quality of that life that is at stake here...remember that. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
