PLANTING A SEED THAT IS MEANT TO DIE
I greet you in Jesus name;
The greatest parts of the message of life that Jesus gives us deals in our death. It is our death to this world's influence on us and death to self. It is a message of death to our control over even the smallest parts of the new creatures we are being made into through the power of the Holy Spirit.
When we look at the nature of any seed planted we find that once planted the seed must first die before it can become regenerated into that new life, and bear fruit in this world. Our lives are very much like that in Christ because when we come to Jesus and ask for forgiveness of sin accepting Him as our Lord and Savior we actually through our love for what God has done for us sign our own willingness to die for Him as He did for us. Our death is different in many ways because the commitment we have to make to that self death is a daily one. It is not just one death, but daily death to self in order to be completely open and used of God.
I find it very interesting when I hear someone speak about that kind of death because they almost always leave out the part where we struggle daily to really become serious about it. Without ever really understanding what is going on many people find it very hard to go through the withdrawals they face from the addictions they have had to sin and self. Most people never get around to teaching anyone about what happens during that period of mourning we go through to dying to something we have held onto for most of our lives in order to live for Christ. We don't seem to understand anything about this dying process or how to cope with it over a long period of time...but that does not change the fact that it is a part of the effect of planting that very seed of the Gospel within our hearts.
The Good part of all of this is that God does help us through it as we continue to bring these things up as we struggle with them. I think it would be very helpful if we as Christians could be open with one another about these issues as well. It would help indeed to know that we are not the only ones who do battle in this way on an almost daily basis. When it comes down to it we are being asked to trade all of what we have in this life to secure the life that God has promised us for all eternity. Most people never plant that seed as deeply as God intends for it to be planted, and for many people there is work that is needed to be done on the soil of their lives before that seed has a chance to take root. I have had many people who have been my mentors along the way who never knew they were that to me, and I have learned about this kind of death the hard way. It is my prayer that you will begin to get serious about your faith in what God has promised you. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
