BEFORE THINGS GET STARTED

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

MATTHEW 4: tells us about the temptations of Jesus in the desert.  Within this account there are many things that we can learn about our own mind set going into any kind of ministry or goal in our Christian lives.  Among these things are the base desires that we have as people to manipulate God's power in our lives.  The simple reason that Jesus was able to have a victory over temptation was that He not only knew scripture, but He also obeyed it.

In Ecclesiastes 3:  we learn that there is a time and a place for everything under Heaven, that it is that understanding that Jesus was able to focus upon while in the desert.  The enemy will always come to us at our weakest point.  Jesus had been fasting for 40 days when the enemy tempted Him, but the difference is that Jesus had gone to the desert to fast and pray before starting His ministry therefore His focus was on what He was there for and not upon His physical desires.  There is much we can and should learn from this in that we too  should be laser focused upon the things that God gives us to do instead of going into something already distracted by the world around us.  Much of the trouble that we have is not in knowing the scripture we need to combat temptation, but in obeying that scripture.  Satan knew the scripture as well, but failed to obey it.

In this country we have as much problem in being tempted by our strengths as we do in our weaknesses because we try to use what we think we know in this life; "those things that we have gathered in man made wisdom and knowledge that tend to give us a false confidence" to combat God's will.  When we are at great heights we feel no need to for a Savior.  It is at those times that even if someone were to come back from the dead to warn us we would not believe...Luke 16:31.  It begins to be very important for us to know what the entire bible is trying to tell us before we can understand the error that we are making in life over the interpretations of what we read.  When we use our own wisdom it is too easy to twist and turn the context of what is written into what men want the word to say.

We are a creation that loves lists of things to follow...we want it made easy for us and we want it to be listed in a way that we never have to obey something that is too hard for us to do.  That sounds very much like the wisdom of men to me...but not the purpose of God to make us grow into adult children spiritually.  Before we get started on anything that we do in Christ let us first allow God to focus our hearts on the task at hand, and then like Christ we can deal with the temptations to come.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
