Listening to the warnings of God's Spirit
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
In today's world we constantly hear different warnings given to us by Scripture. Many times we are forced by the world around us to put these warnings on a back burner of our lives. In the book of Romans 8: 5-8 God's word speaks to us "those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind that of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the spirit; his life and peace, the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God."
Today we find ourselves divided into two categories of people, those who allowed themselves to be controlled by their sinful natures, and those who follow after the Holy Spirit of God. I can't help but believe that most all of us would follow God if we were not influenced or controlled by the world first once we have said yes to Jesus. Once we have said yes to Jesus, we will want to continue following him, because his way brings life and peace on a daily basis. The problem is that we have to consciously choose God every day of our lives.
In order for us to accurately follow God's Spirit we must consciously choose to center our lives on God. We need to use the Bible to discover God's guidelines, and then follow them. In every perplexing situation ask yourself; "what would Jesus want me to do?" When the Holy Spirit points out what is right, we should do it eagerly. Each one of us already know about our sinful nature. In Romans 6:8-10 the word tells us "for if we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The debts he died, he died to sin once and for all; but the life he gives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourself dead to sin but alive to God in Jesus Christ "we no longer are tied to the hate of this world, nor are we tied to the death of sin because of the actions of Jesus Christ on our behalf. Ephesians 4:22-24 tells us"you were taught with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to me made new in the attitude of your minds, and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness"
It is today that the church in general must begin to remember its purpose in Jesus Christ, and we must remember our purpose as the church to give witness as one body to God's son and what he has done the world. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
