A point of light: letting God's wisdom speak to us

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

Ecclesiastes 2:1-25 "I thought in my heart, come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good. But then also proved to be meaningless. Laughter, I said, is foolish. And what does pleasure accomplish? I tried sharing myself with wine, and embracing folly, my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was worthwhile for man to do under heaven during the few days of their lives. I undertook great projects, I built houses for myself and planted vineyards. I made gardens and parks in planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees. I bought male and female slaves in had other slaves who were born in my house. I also owned more herds and flocks of anyone in Jerusalem before me. I am mass silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of King's in the provinces. I acquired men and women singers, and a harem as well as the lights of the heart of man. I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. And all this my wisdom stayed with me. I did not myself nothing my eyes desired I refuse my heart no pleasure. I took delight in all my work, and it was the reward for my labor. Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind, nothing was gained under the sun. Then I turned my thoughts to consider wisdom, and also madness and folly. What more can a keen this than what has already been done? I saw the wisdom was a better than folly just as light is better than the darkness. The wise man has eyes in his head while the fool walks in the darkness, but I came to realize that the same fate overtakes both of them than I thought in my heart, the fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do a gain by being wise? I said to my heart this too is meaningless for the wise man, like the fool, will not be long remembered, in the days to come both will be forgotten like the fool, the wise man to must die! So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. I hated all the things that I'd toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the work in which I have poured my effort and skill the sun. This to is meaningless. So my heart began to despair over the things that I had toilsome labor over under the sun. For a man may do his work wisdom, knowledge and skill, and that he must leave all that he owns to someone who has not worked for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune. What does a man get for all the toil and anxious striving with which he labors under the sun? All of his days his work is pain free, even at night is mine does not rest this too is meaningless. A man can do nothing better the heat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This to I see, is from the hand of God, for without him who can eat or find enjoyment?"

Quite frankly there are many questions that come to mind and trying to find God's wisdom, and allowing him to speak to me through such passages as this. Both David and Solomon in their efforts to lay claim to God's wisdom went through a tremendous period of time in their life to understand God. In this passage of Scripture we find that no matter what they did, no matter what they built, no matter how many people they had around the there was still an emptiness. After all the music, art, and festivity was finished there was still avoid that they could not explain and they could not understand without coming to God. We will always find that life is meaningless and that many times we wind up chasing our tail in an effort to find true wisdom in this world. We will always find wisdom to be better than folly just as light is better than darkness. Today if you find that all of the toil and anguish you have spent in life is becoming meaningless; then perhaps you should allow these words to speak to your life as you allow God to teach you through some meditation in the Scripture. I want to go back at least one more time in our next blog to the book of Ecclesiastes the third chapter as we look again at a different facet of God's love. We will find his love to be eternal and if we can understand the word of God we will soon realize that everything here is created for a time, but not as a permanent thing even the world we live. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
