Babies in Christ: continued

I continue to send you greetings in the name of Jesus:

We continue our study in first John 1:8" if we say we love God"is asked in a very big way when we read this passage of Scripture if we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. This idea is carried on throughout the concept of"once saved always"and yet got it repeatedly tells us that our salvation is dependent upon two things in our life:1. Our relationship with him 2. And In the truthfulness of the intent of our hearts.

In almost every way we turn from this God brings the ball back into our court concerning it being our will to continue to seek after God that will determine our relationship with. John is emphasizing the truth that our original declaration of faith in Christ and our continued growth through the power of the Holy Spirit is directly linked to our honesty with the intent of our heart, and not to want we confess with our lips alone. In reality the truth cannot be hidden without words, or the cunning us of someone who confesses Christ just to become a part of a community that may be able to help them achieve an old terrier goal.

This idea is not just used in this world by politicians or people who need to appear good, but also by those who for their own desire to have positions of power within the church body may appear to be more spiritual so they will be elected into or chosen to serve in a higher place. This is a part of our human nature that we must subdue within the spirit of God so that he can and will operate his ministry through us. We also find"if we say we love God"in 1 John 1:9 when we read if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In a major way this verse asks the question about our ability to be humbled before God and realizing that we need to come to him not just one time, but as men and women sometimes on a moment to moment basis to talk with him and to keep our lives squared away. This begins to deal with the truth within us about the desire to have that very close relationship with God which transforms us into a new creature.

It is an important issue here to think about the term righteousness and what it takes to allow God to change us into his righteousness. Once again it deals with our transformation from the old man into the new man. God cannot and will not even begin that transformation until we have given me over to him the control of our hearts intent. God's desire is to be able to first set us aside or to sanctify us from this world's influence, and then place our lives under the influence of God's Holy Spirit. The idea of if we say that we love God is brought forth even stronger when John indicates in 1 John 1:10 that if we say that we have not sinned, we make God out to be a liar, and his word is not in us. The truth that God gives us in his word never changes, and that upsets me people who would like to live progressively. Truth is eternal, and always exposes a lie no matter what form it may be presented in. Truth is not based on emotional issues that can change the circumstances of our lives or the loyalties of our hearts on any issue. It is constant and sheds continuous light on only one thing what is truth what is lie. The second warning is not just about laying claim to our salvation, but also about the tendency to actually challenge the authority of God in our lives. If we say we love God continues to be the theme into the rest of John's writing, but now it turns from our words toward our actions.1 John 2:3 and hereby we do know that we love him if we keep his commandments. In verse four John tells us that if we do not keep his commandments once again we are a liar, and the truth is not in us, but if we do in verse five it tells us that if God's word dwells within us the love that dwells within that word will become perfected within us. Perfected in this case means it will be completed. Verse six says he that saith he abided Christ ought to also walk just as Christ walked

And finally if we say that we love God continues in the verse nine as it reads he that saith that he is in the light and still hates his brother is in the darkness even now. If we talk the talk then we must walk the walk because if we do not God will call us on it. From verse 11 throughout verse 14 John deals with the need for us to walk in a way that reflects truth within us. Apparently there had been a lot of trouble in the hidden dissension among God's people with regard to hidden anger or hate so John wrote to all of the people in Christ. First is a whole family calling them little children because they were all covered under the same forgiveness of Christ, then his father's or older Christians because they should've been already aware from the beginning. John also wrote to them as those who had recently, to Christ and who were new in the faith, yet not brand-new, for they had overcome much. They could still relate to the lives that they left behind and knew the trials of many of the people were caught up in in the sin that they experienced. John did something that we don't often hear today it was a list of things that they should avoid at all costs. Love not the world neither the things that are in the world, if any man love the world the love of the father is not in him for all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the pride of life, it is not of the father, but this world. And the world passes away, and the lust along with, but he does who does the will of the father will abide forever I encourage you to go ahead and read the rest of the book of first John second John and third John the longest book is five chapters so won't be a huge burden. John begins to tell us much more about what we should be looking for with regard to false prophets and teachers in these latter days the study on sin is clear and yet there are many who would say that we cannot sin once we have been forgiven, but we know that if we take for granted what a loved one does for us there can be divisions between us even though there is love their in the right relationship that we have with the father God there is love if we say that we love God than let slip. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
