THE STUDY OF GOD'S WORD

GREETINGS IN THE NAME OF JESUS:

For some of you, there is a continuous need for information about the study and research of God's word.  The next few blogs will be dedicated to helping a very few of you in your endeavors to seek after Him in a more understandable way.  My reasons for this are varied, but I am noticing that in many cases there are people who are isolated from main sources of information that may be able to use this information.  I pray this gives you some comfort.

The Holy Spirit has awakened me to understand that even without trying to stir things up between teachers of the word we can treat one another very differently just by the ways we study the word of God.  It is important, therefore, that we have clarity in our studies of God's word.

SUBJECT MATTER

Many times we are truly swayed by the subject matter that we choose to concentrate on as we study in God's word.  We cannot afford to be lead off track in what we are studying. We need to have a clear goal of the subject that we want to know about.  I think first of all before we begin to study the word we need to take the time to pray for guidance and direction in choosing what we seek from in the word.  The way that we go about our study can either lead into great enlightenment or it can lead to great deceit depending upon who we are allowing to teach us. Let me explain a bit to you what I mean. Wisdom and knowledge are two very different things. We receive wisdom from the Spirit of Christ as we study; therefore we should always allow God to open our minds and hearts to what is being said instead of using our own brains to figure something out.  The wisdom of men is very empty and deceitful because we can think that something looks right. It may feel right and it may answer questions that we think are solid answers, but many times our wisdom will lead us to destruction because we can so easily be manipulated by this world.

WHO DO WE ALLOW TO TEACH US

As someone who teaches God's word, I take this very seriously. Over the last year, in particular, I have tried to allow God's Holy Spirit as much total control over the teaching role as is possible. I have done that by calling for everyone in the group I am with to channel the Spirit through them as we study together.  The goal is to use the questions and the answers given to channel the Holy Spirit as He does the teaching.  I feel more like I am monitoring a discussion between Christians who are seeking the truth from His word by coming together and reasoning out the scriptures. When I contribute knowledge without also giving Spiritual insight as to how that knowledge should be adapted to daily life I feel I have not done my job. We cannot effectively do that without the Holy Spirit doing all of the real workings in teaching through everyone who is present and being engaged in the discussion.

I really want to encourage each of you who are in need of help in the study of God's word to join me in the next blog as we begin to deal with some different methods of study.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
