Thoughts on Psalm 119 and our country today
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
Not long ago as I was writing one of my blogs I happened upon some interesting facts about the middle of the Bible including the book of Psalms chapters 117, 118, and 119 which led to some interesting thoughts. If you missed it youMay want to go back and check it. What I found in Psalm 119 relates very much to our situation in this country concerning our relationship with God, truthfulness, injustice. The truth is relatively simple to interpret when it comes to these things because in order to have truth in our lives we have to first acknowledge and keep the statutes of God.
It is important that we are not ashamed of the fact that God is in charge and that we can and should have respect for all of his commandments to us. The fact is when we fail to praise God; as it says in verse seven with the of poor right this of our heart we lose the ability to have a righteous judgment about things around us. Psalms 119:8-13 basically is saying that if we keep God's statutes we have an opportunity to cleanse our hearts through listening to what God tells us in his word. What that means is that we need to first of all seek after God with our whole heart instead of wondering away from the Commandments that he has given us.That doesn't just mean that we need to acknowledge God as Lord of our lives, but we need to hide the God's word within our heart so that we can stay away from sin in the form of things like greed, apathy, hate, and all of the things that make up the spiritual decay that we find going on all around us in this country.
This Psalm means a much more than just a blessing God with our lips, but it goes much further into dealing with the truth about who we are as people. It is about giving a testimony of who God is through living our life for Christ. When I say things like living your life for Christ I am referring to the ways that you deal with everyday life. You see I believe that the Bible is the best gift that God is ever given to us. Abraham Lincoln once said "all the good Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book".I can see truthfully that in my life the only guiding principle I have ever had that has led me to find out who I truly was as a man was through reading Scripture, and comparing what I read to the life I was living. God's word has always been our primary weapon in evangelism.
I have used the concept many times of what it takes to use surgery to repair a broken body. I believe with all my heart that as a country today we are broken, and didn't need surgery. Before the repairs can be made however, the patient needs to be opened up and the problem exposed to the open air. This can be a very painful process depending upon how the anesthetic is given, but nonetheless the incision must first be made. Once that one has been created, and the problem exposed then the surgeon has the opportunity to use the right tools and skill to remove whatever has festered, been torn or inflamed, or whatever foreign object that has wedged itself into our system that has caused such pain to be removed. We all know that such surgeries sometimes take longer than we would like, and the waiting period can be nerve-racking.
The truth about such things is that healing cannot take place until that surgery is completed, and the wound is once again shut by the surgeon's hand. There are many of us today who are guilty of trying to plead ignorant of God's law and what we know is the ultimate outcome and the bottom line most religious mistakes. There is really no doubt in my mind that we need surgery in a desperate way in this country. I believe that the surgery we need is due to a religious apathy toward evil, and a desire on the part of many men and women to only look out for self interests.
We desperately need to understand God's ways, and his precepts. The soul of this country is beginning to melt because of the heaviness of the weight it carries to cover the sin that we desire to ignore. Psalm 119:29-30 says"remove for me the way of lying and grant me euro law graciously.; I have chosen the way of truth your judgments have I laid before me". God has not forsaken us, and as long as we hold on to the testimony of truth that continues to convict our hearts we will find that God will not forsake us.We only have a few more days of the political upheaval to deal with in 2016, and yet we still have a huge surgery to undergo. Let there be no mistake it is a life-threatening surgery, and one which we cannot ignore. Stay in prayer, stay in love with God, and stay true to one another. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
