FOCUS
GREETINGS IN THE NAME OF JESUS:
FOCUS is a major part of the study of God's word when it comes to proper growth spiritually, but we are so often losing focus today by the distractions in this world that we can bearly think let alone focus our minds in a single thought process. It is regaining that focus that we want to deal with in this blog.
There are several helpful hints we can take that will help us to focus our minds on the study of God's word. It all starts with rethinking some of the basic things we tend to take for granted. One of those things is in identifying our light source. In a way that is like readjusting our eyes to the light around us in order to see better. It is a kind of re-focus on what we say we believe in and why we believe what it is we profess. For many people asking them to recount their life-changing experience in Christ Jesus is like the young art student taking a test with a blank piece of paper in front of them " WHERE TO START?" can become very frightening, and while most can do the work there is always the problem of where to start and where to finish. Most people have never had to give an account for their belief in Christ, therefore, would simply be like a deer that is caught in the headlights of an oncoming car. That question of where does your source of light come from should be among the first questions answered in our mind in order to begin to focus on our study. MATTHEW 6:24 tells us that we cannot serve both God and mammon.
INDIVIDUALIZE YOUR PERSONAL EDUCATION PLAN: Psalm 139:1-2 " Yahweh; you examine me and know me, you know when I sit, when I rise, you understand my thoughts from afar" This does not happen by accident for He is your creator and He will be able to work with you in creating the focus that you need to begin to get the most out of the word that you study. One of the things that we must stop doing is to worry about what everyone else is doing and then try to copy them in some way. There is a story found in John 21:20-22 where Peter asks Jesus about what He wants from John, and Jesus answers " If I want him to remain until I come again what is that to you? You are to follow me". I believe that is one of the biggest hurdles we have to jump in following Christ; the tendency to look over our shoulder at everyone else and wonder what God is doing with them as though it is a competition between us for who is best among us. When we allow ourselves to do that we have totally blown our focus on Christ. When Peter was confronted with what God wanted from him in life he automatically looked over to another brother ( John) and asked about his life, but Christ shut him down by saying " If I want him to be here when I return again what is that to you?" It becomes our individual focus on Christ that matters the most. We will continue on with this and I pray it helps you. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
