THE NEED FOR MEDITATION IN PRAYER
Greetings in Jesus:
Most scripture that deals with meditation is related to Old testament books like those written by King David in his writings of the book of Psalms. Although Jesus did not teach this deeper personal and much deeper form of communication with God; He did live it out in front of them with His prayer life.
Psalms 1:2 tells us to contemplate deeply God's law...keeping it on both our heart and mind all the day long; and in chapter 19:14 it should be proclaimed by our mouth and in our heart. This tells me that this meditation becomes yet another lost piece of our prayer life that holds a great deal to do with our ability to connect to God's intended power for our prayer life.
In Psalms 104:34 David writes; may my meditations be pleasing to God. This tells me that our meditation cannot simply be a kind of day dreaming, but it needs to have a very purposeful meaning to it. Even in our meditation on God we need to have our mind and our heart controlled by His Spirit in order for what we do to be fruitful. That simple idea of having God in charge of what we do at all times; yet not doing everything for us ha boggled the minds of Christians down through generations of time. It is that combination of our effort to meditate yet God's position of control over how we approach our meditation that causes us to be successful in our prayer life.
I believe that God is asking all of us to make a real investment in our relationship with Him just like the one that He has made toward us. Even before we even acknowledged God He has invested in our future by sacrificing Himself for relationship. What God is looking for are those who are willing to invest in return with their commitment in life to Him. The time that we spend with God through the Holy Spirit is the most quality of time that we can have in this life. There is not one wasted second of our life on meditation on God's word to us. As we draw closer to God His word promises us that He in turn will draw closer to us. It is that act of drawing closer to God, and He to us that creates the special bond of unity or being one with God that Jesus spoke of. "I would have you to be one with me as I am one with the Father", It is the creation of that unity with Christ that also allows us to be one with each other, and therefore have security within the body of Christ against the evils of this world. I want to discuss that a bit more in the next blog...may you richly bless God through your life in Him.
