GOD IS SMIPLY GREATER

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

I want to begin to touch on some things that I found in the book of Hebrews. The writer begins the book from chapter 1 through chapter 10 by exclaiming that Jesus is greater than any other power or created thing because he himself is a part of the creator. Jesus the Christ is called the son of God which is a title that has never been given to any Angel. In Psalm 2:7 "God's word that proclaims the decree of the Lord he said to me, you are my son today; I have become your father".

Today I watch as many people get caught up in following different messengers and messages that claim to be from God, but in most cases when we get sidetracked from the message that God has given to us we risk not only losing our way personally, but we risk the lives of others who may be influenced by us to follow that wrong pathway. When we follow a vision no matter if it is an angel or any other spiritual messenger we need to be very careful in how we compare that message to what has already been written in God's word. In this first chapter of Hebrews we find the name Jesus inherited is superior as the son of God which is the name given to him by his father is greater than the names and titles of any other of God's creation. Full's teachers and many of the early churches taught that God could be approached only through angels. Instead of worshiping God directly, followers of these heretics revered angels. The writer of Hebrews clearly denounces such teachings as false. The idea of understanding the Trinity of God as father son and Holy Spirit has been difficult from the very beginning. In the first churches some thought of Jesus is the highest angel of God. But Jesus is not a superior Angel, and in any case angels are not to be worshiped. (Colossians 2:18; Revelations 19:1-10) so no matter who the messengers are, or the authorities are; they are not greater than Christ. Jesus is God. He alone deserves our worship.

The writer of the book of Hebrews quotes quite a lot from the Old Testament repeatedly as he demonstrates Christ's greatness in comparison to the Angels. The apostles were very busy stamping out fires that were created in the first century Jewish Christians as they struggled with the concept of Jesus Christ being the son of God; or another personality of God. The Jews had been taught that there is only one God, but in most cases they tended to limit the nature of God, the power of God, and the will of God in saving his creation. We tend to humanize God by placing him in the same box we live in which is very limited. In Hebrews the writer deals with the fact that Jesus is God's first born son. In Jewish families the firstborn son held the place of biased privilege and responsibility, so the Jewish Christians who read this message would understand that it is God's firstborn Jesus was superior to any created being. As we begin to read in the book of Hebrews we find that the writer quotes many times from the book of Psalms. As he does this he regards God as the speaker and applies the words spoken to the son Jesus. The earth and the heavens rolled up like a roll reveals that the earth is not permanent or indestructible. We are starting to get the idea of just how temporary this world is through seeing the many different things that mankind is causing. The Greeks and the first sensory felt that the earth was indestructible, and although many people are somehow counting on this earth as a resource that can be sustained indefinitely we need to realize that Jesus authority is established over all of creation, so we dare not treat any object or earthly resources more important than he is.

It is time for the church to place Christ at the center of all things once again. It is a simple truth that God is greater then all that we can think or imagine. The most simple question of all is the one which is asked through out the Scriptures; "do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God?" If you do believe that, then what will you do with him? May you richly bless God through your life in him.
