ACTING LIKE A CHILD OF GOD
Greetings in the name of our beautiful Savior Jesus:
Ever since I can remember I have been searching in one way or the other for wisdom in my life, and when I could not find wisdom in myself or in any one else around me, I naturally turn to God. For me it was never a big step for me to reach out to God to find answers to things that I could not understand. The reason for that was because even at an early age I was able to see that God's word never changed. From that point it was just a matter of finding out how much of God's word pertained to my personal life. What I found was that I could not literally go any where in my life without God's word having a direct impact on it. Then has become a big part of my ability to believe in Christ. In the book of James 1:6 it says"but when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."
Our belief in Christ is one of the most important thing to God. To believe and not doubt means not only to believe in the existence of God, but also to believe in his loving care for us. It includes relying on God and expecting that he will hear and answer when we pray . We must put away our critical attitude when we come to God. Our Lord does not grant every thoughtless or selfish request. We must have confidence that God will align our desires with his purposes. There is no doubt that for most Christians today the idea of approaching God without having some kind of agenda of self involved is almost impossible. I long to understand how to make a connection with God that allows me to tap into his power, and yet I also know that my sinful condition will never allow me to do so without a personal death to self. Matthew 21:21-23 "Jesus replied, I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, go, throw yourself into the sea, and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer". It is the very nature of that statement from Jesus that makes me realize the difference between my brand of belief without doubt, and his perfect belief without doubt.
The first church experienced just a little bit of what that kind of faith through prayer can do when as they prayed as it is recorded in the book of ACTS, the building shook. This also tells me that a mind that waivers is not completely convinced that God's way is best. It treats God's word like any human advice, and it retains the option to disobey. As men and women we tend to vacillate between allegiance and subjective feelings; or the world of ideas and God's commands. The answer to a faith that is new, week, or struggling is to remember that you can trust God. But we must also be loyal to him because that is the only way that we can stabilize our wavering and doubtful mind; by committing ourselves wholeheartedly to God. If you have ever watched the constant ruling huge waves and see you know how restless they are, subject to the forces of wind and grab the and tied they are. That's exactly the way doubt in God leaves us unsettled; just like those restless waves, and if you want to be saved from being tossed around like that, the only way is to rely upon God to show us what is best for us, by asking him for wisdom. Then we have to trust that wisdom, and trust that God will give us the answers that we need. Then your decisions will be sure and solid in life. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
