PREPARING THE SOIL OF OUR LIVES
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
There are but a few of the parables that Jesus taught over and over again through various applications. One of those parables was the seed being sown and the soil within which that seed grew. There are many different things that go into making up the soil of our lives, and they consist of both good and bad things. We often will tend to separate those from one another holding on to the good and rejecting the bad like it never happened to us and yet we don't realize how much we can gain from the bad of our lives if we allow God to teach us from these experiences.
The soil from which we grow the seeds that are planted within us has much to to do with the kind of growth and the quality of fruit that is produced within us. Growth starts from the root of the plant within the soil, and it is the nutrients in that soil that those roots draw from. It is the very soil then within us that drives the seed to grow and bear fruit for God, and if that soil is lacking then so will the plant that grows within it.
That makes me very aware of the kind of teaching that we give to others in the word of God. Each person that we talk with about the words that God has given us to share must fully understand them from us. This makes me realize too that within the church there must be much greater care given to making sure that the Church as a whole understands the things that they are taught. I think for many years now we have not understood some of those basic principals even though we may sit attentively and smile during a sermon or agree in a bible study. I believe it is time that we start to dig into one another a little more to find out what the soil of our lives really holds. This will very likely be an uncomfortable time for us because we are not used to having that soil disturbed at all. For most of us the soil of our lives also holds within it thing that we have purposely buried there to play "out of sight out of mind" with.
It is much of this buried stuff is just laying within us to rot into a compost of materials that we have become very disgusted with but that we don't dare allow anyone else to see out of fear of judgment. I have good news for you...these things that we have buried for so long have become a fertilizer for the soil of our lives that can be spread throughout our experiences to use to enrich our soil and grow better plants and bear much better fruit, but the soil must be dug into and spread over the entire plot of ground. Now this is not done by others getting involved with our past, but by allowing God ; who already knows all about you to use these things to teach you and let you absorb His word clearly. In order for us to be that open with God we need to be able to trust in one another as well, and so it becomes important for us to start to open up to those whom we feel comfortable with sharing parts of our experiences with. This is not confession time, and it is not a way to clear out the gunk from our past, but rather a way to chop it up and use it to make better soil.
I have learned that the things that have happened in my life will never go away from me, and that my mind and heart can either hid these things away from ever seeing the light of day or they can be used as experiences that I can draw from through the power of God's Spirit. We can all do that in various ways as we share in our walk with God. We may have to do some chopping and hoeing, and raking to get the soil of our lives prepared, but it is important that we take care of our own ground before trying to help someone else. I pray that we can all begin to garden together so that we have a beautiful crop for the Master when He comes back. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
